Luis Vivanco, M.A., Ph.D. (Lima, Peru) is bachelor in biology by the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia, in Lima (Peru, 1996). He has a Master in Philosophy with emphasis on Bioethics by the Pontifical Bolivarian University, in Medellin (Colombia, 2004) and a Diploma of Advanced Studies on Bioethics and bio-jurisprudence by the University Rey Juan Carlos, in Madrid (Spain, 2009). In 2011, he received a Doctoral Degree on Medicine by the University San Pablo CEU of Madrid. From 1996 until 1998, he started his professional career in the Department of Genetic Resources of the International Potato Center, an affiliated international research institution based in Peru that is part of the CGIAR Global Consortium. From 2001 until 2006 he moved to Colombia where he balanced his research activities with formative and social initiatives in the Institute of Ethics and Bioethics of the Pontifical Bolivarian University, the Faculty of Medicine of the University CES, and the Foundation “Solidarity in Action”. Since 2007, he was hired as Academic Director for the new program on Bioethics of the Area of Nutrition, Health and Bioethics at the Iberoamerican University Foundation based in Spain and in the Latin American region. Finally, between 2007 and 2010, he moved to Spain under the support of the Alban Programme of the European Commission, a high level scholarships for young professionals and postgraduate students from Latin American countries that wish to do postgraduates studies in Europe. As part of his professional career, he did research internships in different international institutions: the Scientific Section of the Pontifical Academy for Life in Rome (Italy, 2006), in the Cajal CSIC Institute on neuroscience research in Madrid (2008), in the Centre of Biomedical Research of La Rioja in Logroño (Spain, 2010), in the Borja Institute of Bioethics in Barcelona (Spain, 2011), and in the Center for Healthcare Ethics of the Duquesne University in Pittsburgh (USA, 2012). Since 2011, Dr. Vivanco is currently working at the Centre for Biomedical Research of La Rioja (CIBIR) as a post-doctoral researcher. In this institution he coordinates the activities of the Platform of Bioethics and Medical Education, and is the director of the National Centre of Documentation on Bioethics, an institutional initiative established by the Regional Government of La Rioja, in collaboration with the Spanish National Commission for Cooperation with the UNESCO, and with the support of the Section of Bioethics of the UNESCO. Dr. Vivanco is also the Chair of an International Master Program of Bioethics, which is supported by an international consortium composed by the Rioja Health Foundation, the Iberoamerican University Foundation, the International Iberoamerican University in Mexico and Puerto Rico, and the European University of the Atlantic in Spain. In 2013, Dr. Vivanco received an award by the Spanish medical magazine “Diario Medico” entitled "Best ideas in Health Care" prize. This award recognizes best efforts and initiatives in Health care and Health management. Dr. Vivanco is ordinary member of the International Association of Ethics Education (IAEE), the Spanish Association on Bioethics and Medical Ethics (AEBI), the Latin American and Caribbean Federation on Bioethics (FELAIBE), and certified researcher by the National Registry of Researchers in Science and Technology of Peru (REGINA).
