Lorenzo García holds a doctorate in Educational Sciences, and he is an Emeritus Professor of Theory of Education in the Education School of the National University of Distance Education (UNED). He is the Director/Chair of the UNESCO Chair in Distance Education (CUED). He has been director of the International Master of Open and Distance Teaching and Learning. Among the academic positions held at the UNED, he has been the director of the University Institute of Distance Education (IUED - UNED) and dean of the Faculty of Education of the UNED, as well as the general coordinator of Study Plans. He actively participates, as a researcher, in different European educational projects. He has published several works on distance education and ICT applied to education; in particular, 49 books, 14 of them as sole author, and the other 35 as coordinator, director, editor or co-author, as well as more than 100 articles in journals and book collaborations. He has participated in more than 20 competitive research projects. He gives courses on this educational modality in several Ibero-American Institutions. He has been the director of the scientific journal Educación XX1 (JCR), and he is now the director of the Revista Iberoamaericana de Educación a Distancia. He is Doctor Honoris Causa by different universities in Latin America.
